Dr Ramon Mocellin completed his medical training at the University of Melbourne in 1989. After completing a Master of Science in the Department of Medicine at the Royal Melbourne Hospital he had number of years experience as a registrar in neurology, general medicine and geriatric medicine. He obtained Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists in 2004 whilst completing advanced training in Psychiatry of Old Age. In May 2004 he was appointed as the consultant psychiatrist for the Northern Aged Psychiatry Assessment and Treatment Team and as a consultant neuropsychiatrist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he is involved in consultation-liaison neuropsychiatry, the RMH Comprehensive Epilepsy Programme, and outpatient neuropsychiatry.

Dr Mocellin has an interest in neuropsychiatric disorders of old age, dementia and epilepsy. He is currently involved in the development of an outpatient service at the Neuropsychiatry Unit for patients with early-onset dementia. He has published in areas of investigation-negative encephalopathies, hallucinatory phenomena, and auto-immune CNS states.

Dr Mocellin is also the current secretary of the Section of Neuropsychiatry of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.

Clinical Expertise

Dr Mocellin has worked as a Consultant Psychogeriatrician in urban and rural settings in Victoria, predominately with community based Aged Psychiatry Assessment and Treatment Teams and Cognitive Dementia and Memory Services. He is currently one of four psychogeriatricians working with the Aged Persons Mental Health Service in Bendigo.

He was appointed as Consultant Neuropsychiatrist with the Neuropsychiatry Unit at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in 2004 and has experience in the diagnosis and management of complex neuropsychiatric disorders in inpatient and outpatient settings. He is currently involved in the development of a statewide service for persons with younger onset dementia, the Melbourne Younger Onset Dementia Service.

Dr Mocellin also practises at Delmont Private Hospital as a neuropsychiatrist and psychogeriatrician, and is available for consultations on private medical and surgical patients at the RMH Private Medical Centre.

Teaching Expertise

Dr Mocellin has extensive experience in the delivery of educational workshops and lecture series pertaining to psychiatry of old age and neuropsychiatry to a variety of target audiences, including other specialist groups, general practitioners, patients and their families, and the general public.

Clinical referrals generally will need to be made by a medical practitioner to attract a medicare rebate. Referrals are accepted from general practitioners and other medical specialists and can be sent to the below address, fax number or email address. Second opinions for possible oragnic psychiatric disorders, dementia, younger-onset dementia or complex cases from other mental health practitioners are welcomed.
